About INHSA

About the Inland Northwest Homeschool Spelling Association

INHSA runs the homeschool spelling bee for 4th–8th graders in North Idaho and northeastern Washington. We're based in Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

We run the first two steps on the path to the Scripps National Spelling Bee: free membership and our homeschool bee. One winner from each state, Idaho and Washington, advances to the Inland Northwest Spelling Bee (opens in a new tab), the regional bee.

Why spell?

Skills that outlast bee day

Vocabulary, memory, public speaking, and a lifelong love of learning: a bee builds skills that go well beyond spelling.

  • Become a stronger speller

Grow your vocabulary, sharpen your memory, and strengthen your writing.

  • Build confidence

Practice speaking clearly in front of an audience.

  • Compete with the best

Go head to head with strong spellers from across North Idaho and northeastern Washington.

  • A life-changing experience

Find out how far your studying can take you, maybe all the way to D.C.

A note from our coordinator

Hi, spellers!

I competed at the Scripps National Spelling Bee in 2016. INHSA exists so homeschooled spellers in North Idaho and northeastern Washington get their own shot at that stage.

Join, start studying, and I'll see you at the bee in January.
